May (Wyldwood Arts)

May (Wyldwood Arts)

Using original letters and extracts this one-woman show is based on the life of ‘the cripple suffragette' May Billinghurst, whose story has been widely ignored by the history books. An exploration of the constricts facing women, the oppression of LGBTQI+ individuals and the restricted lives of disabled people, in the claustrophobic Edwardian era. Today, in a society where many continue to fight for their voices to be heard, this show returns to her story and asks - how far have we come in 100 years? Followed by a Q+A session with writer, actor and activist Phoebe Kemp.
